Do you offer Colorado Landowner Hunting Vouchers for sale?
Yes, we typically offer a wide variety of hunting vouchers for antelope, deer and elk.
When are your hunting vouchers available for sale?
By mid-June and as soon as we receive them from the state.
Where do I learn about which types of hunting vouchers you will be offering?
All of our hunting vouchers with details, dates and pricing are listed at barstarranch.com by mid-June as soon as we receive them from the state. You may also get on our email list by sending us an email at info@barstarranch.com We will email you a complete list of our hunting vouchers as soon as they become available.

What dates are your hunting vouchers good for hunting?
All hunting dates and seasons are designated by the state of Colorado. Please see the current year Colorado Big Game Brochure at https://cpw.state.co.us. Archery season typically begins late August and runs into late September. Muzzleloader typically begins mid-September. Rifle seasons typically begin mid-October and run through mid-November.

Do you offer for sale private land only hunting vouchers?
Yes, we do. The hunting vouchers we offer with the hunting code designated with the PLO suffix is Private Land Only hunting. For deer this means where you have approval from the landowner, you may hunt on their private land in Colorado hunting units 50, 500 and 501. For elk this means where you have approval from the landowner, you may hunt on their private land in Colorado hunting unit 50. Purchasing a hunting voucher from Bar Star ranch grants you approval to hunt our ranch property for the timeframe on the hunting voucher.
Do you offer for sale unit wide hunting vouchers on public lands?
Yes, we do. The hunting vouchers we offer with the hunting code designated with the LPP suffix are Unit Wide hunting on public lands. For deer this means you may hunt on public lands in Colorado hunting units 50, 500 and 501. For elk this means this means you may hunt on public lands in Colorado hunting unit 50. There is vast BLM, US Forest and State Wildlife public lands adjacent to our ranch. Purchasing a hunting voucher from Bar Star Ranch grants you approval to hunt our ranch property for the timeframe on the hunting voucher.
Do you offer hunting your ranch property by paying a trespass fee?
No, we do not.
Can I reserve a hunting voucher and pay for it in advance?
No. We don’t know in advance how many and which types of hunting vouchers the state will grant us. The purchase of all hunting vouchers is first come first serve.
Do you provide guided hunting on your ranch property or is all hunting self-guided?
All hunts are self-guided. For those guests looking for guided service, we have partnered with Eastern Plains Outfitters. lThey have exclusive access to guide on over 25,000 acres of BLM as well as Bar Star Ranch’s private land. Eastern Plains Outfitters has a true passion of helping guests achieve the opportunity of taking a great Colorado elk, mule deer, or antelope. Where is your ranch located?
Bar Star Ranch is located in Como, Colorado in Park County and adjacent to the intersection of Highway 285 and County Road 15 (Elkhorn Road)
In what hunting unit is your ranch?
Colorado Hunting Unit 50.
What kind of terrain is your ranch property and how many acres are there to hunt?
The majority of the ranch property is wide open grassland with many ravines, gullies and draws. There is approximately 80 acres of treed area on the ranch property. Game can find water at the several wells, ponds and lake on the ranch property.
What is the elevation at the ranch?
9,500 feet. If you are coming from low altitude, acclimate appropriately. Protect yourself from the sun.
What is the weather like during hunting season?
The average weather during hunting season can range from lows in the teen’s with snow to highs in the 50’s. You may expect an average of 6 inches of snow on the ground. Winter storms bring the elk herds onto the ranch property.
How can I access your ranch property?
You may enter anywhere on the ranch where there is a metal or barbed wire gate. The ranch property is easily accessible via 2 track road with a truck or other vehicle. ATV or horse is ok to use as well. Please close all gates as this is a working cattle ranch.
What big game animal species can I hunt on your ranch property or on public lands?
Elk, Deer and Antelope

Do I have approval to hunt your ranch property if I purchase a hunting voucher from you?
Yes, you do.
Does a Private Land Only hunting voucher allow me to hunt other private land property in Colorado, and if yes, where?
Within the hunting unit for your specific hunting voucher, and with prior approval from the land owner, you may hunt other private land. See additional Colorado Parks and Wildlife information at https://cpw.state.co.us
May I bring a non-hunter with me on your ranch property when I hunt?
This may be possible on a case by case basis with prior notice and approval. Everyone on ranch property during hunting season must follow all Colorado hunting and safety regulations.
Are there services on or nearby the ranch property?
We have a fisherman shelter that is fully insulated and heated with lights and electrical. No water. It is available for hunters to rent in advance, on a daily basis, for a fee. The town of Fairplay, CO is 10 miles south of the ranch on highway 285 where you may find hotels, restaurants, groceries and supplies. Book hotels well in advance!
Is camping allowed on the ranch?
With advance notice you may camp on the ranch in designated areas.
Is there fishing available near the ranch?
Yes, on our ranch property there is a 30-acre lake with rainbow trout up to 6-7 pounds. Catch and release Fly fishing is available for a daily fee.
Do you offer services to make hotel or house rental arrangements?
Unfortunately, we are not able to do that for you. We do provide information about accommodations at our barstarranch.com website. Book early!
How many hunters are typically hunting the ranch property at any one time?
Only a few. Typically, 2 or 3 on our 7500-acre ranch.
Is their game resident on the ranch?
Yes, there is antelope and deer that reside on the ranch. Elk reside near the ranch at higher elevations. Several elk herds move on the ranch and congregate during the hunting season.
How does the hunting voucher purchase process work?
To purchase one of our landowner vouchers you would make your selection from our hunting voucher list and contact us quickly at info@barstarranch.com. You may call us at any time with questions about our hunting vouchers. Once you contact us and we confirm the voucher is available and you agree to purchase the voucher, we set it aside for you, take a photo of it and email you back with the photo confirming it exists. We will provide you instructions for payment: check or PayPal.
Important: We can hold your voucher for you, waiting for payment, for 1 week. Please understand our hunting vouchers are in high demand and sold on a first come first serve basis.
How do I get my hunting voucher from you?
Once we receive your check we promptly mail your voucher to you
Can I cancel and return my hunting voucher to you and receive a refund?
All sold hunting vouchers are non-refundable.
Can I sell or transfer my hunting voucher?

Is there any other fee’s I must pay in order to hunt besides the fee I pay you for the hunting voucher?

Is the hunting voucher I receive from you also my official hunting license?
No, it is not. You must also purchase valid Colorado hunting licenses. See the information at https://cpw.state.co.us and also see the Colorado Big Game Brochure.
How do I convert/redeem the hunting voucher into a hunting license?
Take your hunting voucher a Colorado Parks and Wildlife License Agent (many sporting goods and hardware stores) and convert it into your Colorado hunting license and pay the license fee. Colorado Parks and Wildlife License Agent information may be found at: https://cpw.state.co.us
Is there different hunting license fees for in-state residents vs. out-of-state residents?
Yes, there is. Please contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife at https://cpw.state.co.us for all Colorado state hunting regulations and fees.
Is there anyone at the ranch I can reach out to when I am hunting in case I need help answering a question about the ranch?
Yes, we have a full-time ranch hand who resides at the ranch. We can provide you contact information when you purchase a hunting voucher.
What is the address of the ranch property.
Bar Star Ranch – 21105 Elkhorn Road, Como, Colorado 80432. Elkhorn Road is also known as county road 15.
Do you provide directions to the ranch property?
Directions to our ranch from Fairplay, CO: Drive north 10 miles on highway 285 and turn right onto county road 15 – Elkhorn road. Drive approximately 2 miles to where the ranch property begins.
Directions to the ranch from the Denver area: Drive time approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes from Denver Airport. Driving west on I70. Take highway 470 south for 6.2 miles. Take the highway 285 exit south toward Fairplay and go past the towns of Conifer, Bailey and Grant. Continue over Kenosha Pass and stay on highway 285 and pass through the very small town of Jefferson. Continue on highway 285 for approximately 8 miles and take the left turn onto county road 15 – Elkhorn road.
